2020 has already been pretty frightful, and now that it's spooky season, even traditional Halloween activities aren't looking the same. This doesn't mean it can't be fun!
If your kids are anything like ours, they've already picked out a costume - our 3 year old wants to be a tree (?) - and they're not worried about being able to trick-or-treat as long as they get some candy. We've put together our favorite Halloween activities and movies to make this Halloween memorable in all the right ways, even if you're staying in!
10 Budget Friendly Halloween Activities
- Get lost in a DIY maze. You can draw in a maze with chalk outside, or build one inside your living room. All you'll need are some streamers.
- Make your own rock candy. Follow these steps to make your own rock candy in spooky colors.
- Build your own scarecrow. You probably cleaned out your closet at the beginning of quarantine. Put any leftover clothes to use here. You can even make a neighborhood competition.
- Play mummy wrap. Now that we've overcome the toilet paper shortage, you likely have some extra stock to play this classic game.
- Go bowling with DIY spooky tin cans. Follow this tutorial to paint your cans with some Halloween characters, and then set them up like bowling pins.
- Play the spider web walking game. Set up a web with tape like this and leave some candy throughout. Pretend you're a spider moving to flies caught in its web.
- Decorate your home with tissue ghosts. Follow this tutorial and make some easy decorations.
- Get messy and play ghost face. All you need is a plate of whipped cream and some candy corn. Search for the candy corn under the whipped cream on your plate, and compare your ghost faces. More details on setup here.
- Decorate pumpkins. This Halloween classic doesn't have to change. Grab some paint or stickers and get creative. Some pumpkin patches are offering curbside pickup and delivery this year!
- Create some spider cookies. Get some oreos and licorice and let your kids decorate their own spider cookies. Everyone needs some more sugar around Halloween!
